Polar Bear is a very modern yacht. She has a range of equipment onboard which not only helps us do our job, but also makes life very comfortable for our guests.
External Equipment:
Externally, Polar Bear is quite a sight. She has a lot of ropes and winches to look at, as well as a mast towering 95 feet overhead! Although she may look complicated, twin furling (roll-up) head sails mean that this boat is very easy to sail.
An electric anchor windlass (winch) means that the boat can be anchored quickly and easily with only one member of crew to do the work. This is a small piece of equipment which saves a lot of time in the daily routine.
'Auto-pilot' is everybody's favourite. At the press of a button the boat can steer herself. All we have to do is tell her where to go and keep a good watch! Easy!
An 8 man RIB and 20hp outboard provides us with transport to the shore from our anchorage. This RIB is also our safety boat when kayakers are in the water.
Electric davits at the back of the boat enable us to deploy and recover the RIB in just a few minutes, all at the touch of a button.
Below Decks
Below decks Polar Bear is a bit like the 'Tardis'. There is a lot of space, and a very comforting, clean and modern space.
There is a large galley with oven / grill and 5 burner stove. A very spacious salloon with seating for 14 around a dining table.
For those who need to charge camera batteries / power hair-dryers etc, there are 3 prong sockets (UK style) onboard.
2 well sized shower rooms / WC enable us to enjoy a piping hot shower after a hard day in the hills / on the water.
A big 'wet locker' gives us space to dry boots / waterproofs etc. A central heating system (diesel powered) provides hot air throughout the whole boat. It might be cold outside, but it will be cozy below decks!
Finally, the accommodation is for up to 18 (we only take 12 so imagine the space). The bunks are in 6 separate cabins and a comfortable nights rest is guaranteed.
