A Proven history

Polar Bear was built in 2000 as part of the ‘Global Challenge Fleet’; she has circumnavigated the globe on three occasions, against the prevailing winds and currents, and always through the notorious Southern Ocean. Although she would ordinarily have 18 crew, in 2005/6 she rose to fame when Dee Caffari, ex-P.E. teacher and solo yachtswoman sailed her around the world non-stop, becoming the first woman in history to complete a solo west-about circumnavigation.

Polar Bear’s incredible 6 year history has proven what a capable, strong and versatile yacht she is. Through extensive modification to enable solo handling, she’s easier to sail than her sister ships. Twin furling headsails and a proven autopilot mean that a smaller crew can manage her, allowing more space per person and a more relaxed atmosphere in which to live.

Formerly known as Aviva,  she was put onto the market in 2006 and very quickly spotted by Phil Richardson…

“We were looking for a boat that could be trusted in any conditions, capable of providing spacious and comfortable accommodation for our crew, acting as a ‘base camp’ wherever she takes us”

By December 2006 she found herself with new owners and a very different itinerary for her future.  She has quickly proven herself as an Arctic explorer and The Polar Front look forward to an exciting future in remote waters.
