2011 Northern Latitudes Itinerary

Thank you for your interest in our Summer 2011 itinerary.  Below you will find a list of voyages around the northern latitudes amongst the most fantastic destinations above and below the Arctic Circle.

Rest assured you do not need sailing experience to join one of these voyages, however some of the longer trips might be more suitable to sailors wanting to boost their experience, ocean miles and confidence.  We always have fully qualified yachtmasters onboard who would love to share their experience with you.

Trip 1: Newcastle (England) to Fort William (Scotland)

 

WPolar Bear on the Caledonian Canal ednesday 27th April – Wednesday 4th May 2011

 

We will depart Newcastle (Royal Quays Marina) on the early evening of the 27th April, headed for Fort William via the incredible Caledonian Canal; sailing through Loch Ness and Fort Augustus, stopping in Bannavie and Corpach.

 

Trip 2: Western Isles Cruise (Scotland)

Come join us on a week’s west coast adventure! If you have not yet visited this beautiful, unspoilt area then this is the trip for you as we explore the hidden gems of Scotland’s Highlands and Islands.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Trip 3: Explore the Scottish Islands

From the beautiful setting of the Western Isles we will continue our Scottish adventure along and around the local coastline and islands, heading ultimately for Lerwick (Shetland Islands) with a stop en route in the Orkney Islands.  

 

 

 

 

Trip 4: Explore the Shetland Islands (Scotland)

Having visited a small number of the Shetland Islands this summer we cannot wait to get back and explore further! The Shetlands are a hidden gem with many incredible islands full of wildlife, sea cliffs, caves and the most beautiful scenery. This trip promises to be nothing short of incredible!

 

Trip 6: Lerwick (Shetland Islands) to Bodo (Norway)

Wednesday 8th – Wednesday 15th June 2011

 

This trip is a great mile-building opportunity for those looking for some ocean experience. Joining Polar Bear in the Shetland Islands we will sail over 600 miles into the Arctic Ocean. Arriving into Bodo (Gateway to the Lofoten Islands) you will understand why Polar Bear returns once again to these magical islands.

Trip 7: Lofoten Islands (Norway)

Saturday 18th – Sat 25th June 2011

 

This will be Polar Bear’s fourth trip to the Lofoten Islands, where relaxing and appreciating your stunning surroundings are firmly on the menu. Whether you choose to hike in the mountains or explore the sea coves by kayak, Polar Bear is your perfect guide for the ultimate Lofoten experience!

Trip 8: Bodo (Norway) – Jan Mayen – Akureyri (Iceland)

From Bodo we will cross the Norwegian Sea for the unique solitary island of Jan Mayen where we have been made to feel most welcome on many occasions now. For those looking for an additional  challenge,  the rarely visited summit of Beerenberg volcano looms 2277m above. Our next port of call will be Akureyri in the north east of Iceland.

 

Trip 9: Akureyri (Iceland) - Jan Mayen – Ittoqqortoormiit (East Greenland)

Another great mile building opportunity with lots of new experiences to look forward to;  24 hours of daylight, cold ocean currents, icebergs, whales and every so often a glimpse of the incredible mountains and glaciers that dominate these islands

 

Trip 11: Milne Land Circumnavigation (East Greenland)

Saturday 6th – Wednesday 17th August 2011

 

This season saw Polar Bear’s first circumnavigation of Milne Land Island, East Greenland , making up part of the largest fjord system in the world, and we can’t wait to get back and explore further. This place is truly breathtaking and will not fail to impress!
